Hanne Ankersen, Denmark sent us following photos of her collection of young seedlings.  She is a biologist and has collected cacti since 1995. In her apartment there are about 100 different species. Hanne sows the seed in a mini grower and due to lack of space on the window sill she uses artifical light. After a few months the plants are planted individually in small clay pots (4 x 4 cms).

Copiapoa cinerea v. haseltoniana
sown June 15th 1997.  This little plant is ca 1 ½ year old. A slow growing species from the Chilean coast.
Lophophora diffusa
sown in April 1998. The plant is ca 1 year old. They grow rather slowly but they already look like a miniature Lophophora!
Notocactus magnificus
sown June 15th 1997 (1 ½ year old). An easy species to grow from seed. Later on they grow very big. The flowers are yellow.
Turbinicarpus pseudopectinatus
sown June 15th 1997 (1 ½ year old). This is also a rather slow growing species, but not especially tricky. It grows well if given mineral potting mix and not too much water. The flowers are pink-violet.
Ferocactus glaucescens
sown June 28th 1997 (1 ½ year old). Easy to grow from seed. It will however take some years til it reaches flowering size. In a year or two, and if given much light, the spines get stronger and more colourful, and it will then be a very attractive plant.
